The Bryans Road Volunteer Fire Department recently placed in service a new Administrative Vehicle (Car 11) and Command Unit (Command 11).

Car 11 is a 2010 Ford Flex outfitted with emergency warning equipment and radios. Car 11 is primarily used for administrative functions such as training and meetings.

Command 11 is a 2010 Ford Expedition outfitted with emergency warning devices and a full rear command console. Command 11 is utilized by the Duty Chief for incident response and ICS functions.

Vehicle Into a House

Units from Bryans Road and surrounding companies responded to 7395 Pomfret Road for a report of a vehicle into a house with entrapment. Rescue Engine 113 and Truck Company 11 arrived on the scene to find a single vehicle accident with no entrapment and minor damage to the residence. After the Collapse Team from LaPlata VFD confirmed there was no major structural damage, the scene was turned over to law enforcement.


 
   
   
A Tool Job, 3 Fly-Outs and a Small Kitchen Fire

The Volunteers of Bryans Road had a busy day handling several runs including a tool job on Billingsley Road resulting in two fly-outs, an industrial accident  at the Bryans Road Self Storage resulting in another fly-out and a small kitchen fire in Accokeek.

The BRVFD would like to take the opportunity to congratulate K. Bass, B. Keys, and Andrew Tackish on graduating from High School. We wish you well in your future endeavors and hope you will be with us for several years to come. Also, EMT-B Bass has enlisted in the United States Air Force and is sure to make our department proud. We would also like to congratulate Lexy M. and K. Clinton House Fire

Truck Company 11 responded as Second Due Truck to a report of a House Fire in the 3300 block of Accolade Drive in Clinton. Truck 11 arrived on the scene and was advised to perform Outside Vent duties. The Truck Crew split into two teams, removing several bars from windows, laddering the 2nd floor and venting the house. After the fire was knocked down, Truck 11 assisted with overhaul in the basement.

Car Crash in Accokeek

Rescue Engine 113 responded to Livingston Road and Maple Lane in Accokeek for a vehicle into a telephone pole. Chief 11A, Rescue Engine 113 and Engine 824 arrived on scene to find a heavily damaged vehicle that had severed the pole in two. Witnesses on the scene advised the occupant fled on foot. After handling a small fluid spill the Rescue Engine cleared.

Record Snow Brings 70 Runs and 3 Fires

During the Blizzard of 2010, the Volunteers of Bryans Road were kept busy with over 70 runs and 3 working fires. During the storm several members stepped up and staffed the station for the week long snow emergency. Thanks to all the Fire and EMS members who volunteered countless hours on the apparatus and around the station.

First Due House

At approximately 0100 a single family house fire assignment was dispatched at 5750 Penguin Place in the Marshall Hall section of the first due. Station 11 units arrived on the scene to find a working fire in a single story residence. Crews from Bryans Road, Potomac Heights and Accokeek had the bulk of the fire knocked down in about 30 minutes.

At 1037 hours, Charles County Communications dispatched a motor vehicle collision with a vehicle in the river and a report of one trapped.  Rescue Engine 113, Truck 11, and Chief 11A responded, as well as the remaining assignment.  Boat Support Unit 8 was the first to arrive and advised that the vehicle was only partially submerged.  The patient was not trapped.  Chief 11A held Company 11 units while Emergency Medical Services evaluated the patient.


 
   
   
Bensville Rd. House Fire

At 1415 hours Charles County Communications dispatched a House Fire at 7150 Bensville Rd. in Company 12's first due, bringing Rescue Engine 113, Engine 112,  Tanker 11, Ambulance 118, Paramedic Ambulance 119, and Chief 11A from Station 11. Units arrived on the scene to find a working basement fire with some extension to the first floor. The fire was quickly knocked down and units remained on the scene for a couple hours mopping up.


 
   
   
Mass Casualty Incident

At 2106 hours, a Mass Casualty Assignment was dispatched for the bus accident at the intersection of Livingston Road and Indian Head Highway. The assignment consisted of Engine Companies 11 and 24, Squads 7 and 8, Ambulances 118, 119, 78, 98, 249, Mass Casualty 16 and the West Side Battalion Chief. Units from Station 11 arrived on the scene to find a VanGo Bus involved in a collision with another vehicle, 10 passengers complained of various injuries. Seven patients were transported and 3 passengers signed releases.

Crash with Subject Trapped

On 18 November 2009, Rescue Engine 113 responded along with Engine 112, Ambulance 118, Chief 11, Squad 7, Ambulance 78, and Paramedic Ambulance 89 to Billingsley Rd. and Catchapenny Place for the report of an auto accident with a subject trapped. Units from 11 arrived on the scene to find a single vehicle into a utility pole with one occupant still in the vehicle. The crew from Rescue Engine 113 and Engine 112 utilized the ResQ Jacks to stabilize the vehicle while Squad 7 prepared for extrication. After the vehicle was stabilized the occupant was extricated within a few minutes. The patient was turned over to the EMS Crew and transported.  


 
   
   
Small Electrical Fire

At 1500 hours, Truck 11 was dispatched as First Due Truck to 15402 Bealle Hill Rd. for the house fire. Engine 824 arrived on the scene with a 2 story residence with nothing evident. Upon investigation, Engine 824 reported light smoke in the basement. The crew from Truck 11 assisted the engine crew in finding the source and secured the electrical equipment powering an aquarium. After finding no extension, Truck 11 cleared after about 30 minutes.
